about me

My name is Unu and I am currently pursuing my post baccalaureate in ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I'm Korean but was born in New York and grew up in Hong Kong. I ended up in Seoul after getting my bachelor's degree in Gender Studies at UCLA, where I was involved in activist causes and then went on to work in writing, graphic design, and teaching. While teaching English, I began pursuing ceramics in October 2016. One year later, I began studying at Kookmin University's graduate ceramics program before spending a few months at the Siena Art Institute.

I read that Autodesk and Yahoo's former CEO Carol Bartz once described a successful career path as a three-dimensional pyramid rather than a two-dimensional ladder. This means that you can and need to make lateral moves along the sides of the pyramid in order to build upwards.  It may not look like you're moving quickly or even moving at all, but you're building the skills and experiences necessary to moving upward. I find this an especially useful mindset to have as I look at my trajectory.
